Sarah is a self-confessed craft 'dabbler' and president of her local Women's Institute. She is passionate about families connecting with each other and enjoying their time together. She was looking for a career that would enable her to enjoy the early years with her young family and now runs successful, award-winning, fun, creative art and craft classes, after-school clubs, parties and events for all ages in Barnsley, South Yorkshire.
We are proud to have presented Sarah our 'Franchisee of The Month' award for March 2020. Sarah has been really proactive in getting her business to work for her. She has focused and worked really hard to ensure she has a formula that works around her family life. Sarah is also very eco-conscious and really wants to make this clear in her business. With a thriving business we can't wait to see what fantastic things she has planned for the next 12 months! Well done Sarah!
We asked Sarah to share why she loved providing creative activities in her community - this is what she said...
Why did you want to run your own business?
"Having two children in two years drastically changed my priorities. I didn't want to go back to an emotionally draining job with long working hours and miss out on my childrens' early years. Working for myself means I can choose the hours I want to work and plan it around my family"
What attracted you to The Creation Station?
"I love the ethos and brand values. Despite having little natural talent I still enjoy crafting and I think others would too if they had a go."
"Creativity is so important...it gives us the opportunity to escape...for children this is just having the chance to be children and explore materials, shapes and colours without any rules or expectations. For adults this is time away from life, screens and 'to-do' lists and to just relax."
Describe your highlights so far...
"I worked with the 'WE Wonder' Festival last summer. It was a real buzz being part of a fantastic family day. Whenever I looked up and saw crowds of families enjoying our activities it gave me that fuzzy feeling inside."
"I am running Create Club three times a week in two local schools. I really love it and the ideas and imagination from the children blows me away, they are amazing and seem to get so much from the clubs. I especially appreciate being in a position to nurture children’s confidence in their ability as a surprising amount tell me they ‘cant do it’ or have done it ‘wrong’ and so explaining to them that there is no right and wrong way when it comes to being creative is a conversation that can often happen in create club."
Don't just take our word for it, look what parents say about Sarah & her classes...
How do you feel about the future?
"Very excited! I am really pleased to be a part of the new Alhambra Kids Club in the town centre, I will be there for two days a week in every school holidays delivering free crafts for children in Barnsley. The first one has just happened at half term and the children seemed to love creating their own superhero identities along with masks and capes. It’s a fab opportunity to help lots of children and families unleash their creative potential."
"My Creative Crafters and Tiny Treasures have really taken off too. I run these once a month in a local pub and I get great feedback and reviews for both. Again, I have seen adults grow in confidence as they often arrive telling me they are not creative and then they leave beaming with pride at what they have created."
How do you feel about being awarded 'Franchisee Of The Month'?
"I am over the moon to have won franchisee of the month – running my business around my family is hard work, although very rewarding, so to get some recognition for everything I have achieved is really great!"
