I lived in Holland with my husband for 7 years and during that time I worked in a Human Resources Management position. We moved back to the UK in 2013 with our 2 little boys to the Isle of Wight, while settling us all into our new lives, I joined many groups to meet new friends and had seen The Creation Station on the mainland, but there was nothing like this on the Isle of Wight for little ones. I had always wanted my own business to work around my family and have always enjoyed arts & crafts, it seemed like a perfect opportunity for me to achieve my dreams. So I bit the bullet and went for it! I contacted the Creation Station for information, went to a discovery morning and 2 months later I was training in Devon at The Head Office.
I came back from training, full of excitement and slightly daunted by the endless possibilities with my very own sparkly new Isle of Wight business! Then came the reality of my launch, getting the name out there and the hard work that lay ahead, but I got straight down to business and The Creation Station Isle of Wight took off straight away.
A year on and what a journey it has been, I feel privileged to get to have fun with 80+ families a week in my term time Creation Station classes. A year ago, the teeny baby discoverers who came to me with their mummies are still coming along, but now as focused Little Explorers, it has been a real privilege to be part of their creative journey for the past year. The Little Explorers who started as just turned 2 year olds, are now confident, engaged Little Explorers who have made special little friendships with each other. I regularly get photos sent to me by mums of their little ones artworks framed, proudly on display and being treasured forever. Over the past year I have met so many new little ones each week, and now lots of little siblings have also been born. It’s just so lovely to have made such special friends as part of my ‘job’.
Late last year, I decided to branch out further and took on the Create Club for afterschool and holiday clubs. I launched sessions straight away and have had fully booked courses ever since. The Create club is fabulous, it engages children from yrs1-6 each week, challenges them and ultimately makes them very proud of their creations which is simply priceless.
More than 300 children also attended Creation Station art parties on the Island as well last year, which has been amazing. I love that our parties can entertain children and adults alike, and our crafts are suitable for ages ranging from 1 – 11 years. Truly fun for everyone, especially ME!
My focus for year 2 is to make some great partnerships with local organisations to bring top quality arts & crafts entertainment to their events and to inspire many many more imaginations across the Island.
The most wonderful part of my business, is that I believe in everything we do, I see first hand, the benefits the arts & crafts have on my own children (who now live in a very glittery, craft filled home!). Their focus and creativity at young ages is incredible and most importantly they LOVE creating. I was the mum who loved being creative but not so much at home, but seeing the joy, confidence and pride creating can bring, my attitude has changed completely and I love being able to provide a safe, fun, friendly place for parents and children to create together at my sessions. Completely rewarding and simply priceless!
