Active play promoted for preschool groups
Preschool groups in Scotland are being encouraged to expand their active play facilities, which could lead to more kids getting involved with creation crafts.
The Care Commission made the recommendation to some nurseries in the region after inspecting over 2,000 premises.
Officials found that 84 per cent of learning centres scheduled sufficient physical pastimes for youngsters, while the remainder have been urged to increase the number of active play sessions they hold.
Ronnie Hill, director of children's services regulation at the Care Commission, explained that preschool groups that offer a range of pastimes can have a positive impact on the lifestyles of children attending centres.
He said: "We are recommending that all of these nurseries make the necessary improvements to ensure they offer the best possible opportunities for children to stay healthy and active."
Parents who wish to take their kids to fun group sessions can book Creation Station events, which allow kids to get stuck into creative activities, such as painting t-shirts and making treasure chests.
In other news, sociologist Frank Furedi recently told the Sun how physical pursuits, such as tree climbing, can help teach kids about risks and where their strengths and weaknesses lie.
